Sister Nivedita by Sumit Kumar

Nivedita was born in Tyron city of North Ireland on October 23, 1867. Her ancestors were originally the citizens of Scotland and had come to settle in Ireland. Her father, Samuel Nobel, and mother, Lady Hamilton, remained childless for several years after their marriage. They prayed to God for a child. They promised that they would dedicate the child to the service of God. When she was born, her parents gave her the name—Margaret Elizabeth Nobel.
Nivedita’s family were religious by nature. Therefore, it was natural for Nivedita to be influenced by religious belief. Since her childhood, she used to go out with her father to serve the poor.
Since her childhood days, serving the needy and the poor had become an intrinsic part of her personality. She had received nationalistic inspiration from her father and grandfather. Similarly, she had inherited beauty and humility from her mother.
