Tumkur known as Kalpataru Nadu. It is presently located in Karnataka .Tumkur Is a developing city . It is a industrial city. Now it has become a ” SMART CITY”. The district occupies an area of 10,598 Km. Sq and has a population of 2,584,711 of which 19.62% were urban as of 2001.The district ranked 4th place in terms of population in Karnataka after Bengaluru,Belegaum and Mysuru .Tumakuru is the second largest district after belgavi.The sex ratio is 984 female out of 1000 males .The literacy rate is 75.14%.The district is known for the production of coconuts. Tumkur district has 10 taluks and it shares border with 8 districts .The mineral wealth of Tumakuru is considerable iron is obtained in large quantities from the hill slides .The excellent stone is also quarried. It is know as ”A GOOD TEACHING CENTRE ”. There are many institutions for education.There are many improvements like construction of new roads,electric trains,smart library ,gas connection to houses..etc.There are many tourist places such as Devaranyan Durga,Namada Chilume,Basdi Betta,…etc.The Government is working hard to maintain cleanings.The seat of administration of Tumkur in Karnataka was founded by Kante Asuran of Mysore Royal Family.On the occasion of Suvarna Karnataka ,Tumkur was renamed as Tumkuru .It is believed that the name Tumkur possibly originated from Tumbe Oru.Totally Tumkur is a historical place. It has so many places to see .It is one of the industrial citie located in the state of Karnataka,also known as shaishanika nagari .Since 28 August 2010 Tumkur has been accorded the status of a city food park ,a project of the ministry of food processing .The India Food park was inaugurated by prime minister Narendra Modi in September 2014. Etymologically the name of the city is believed to have been abundance of tumbe huuvu,a kind of flower. Tumkur is famous for SRI SIDDAGANGA MATT for free education and free food.At last proud to be an”TUMKURIAN.”
