Sharatchandra is one of the greatest and most widely read Bengali writers in Indian literature. It would not be an exaggeration to say that he is pioneer of women’s empowerment in India. Most of his novels and stories have women as the protagonist. His stories were mostly related to the rural areas and the struggles that a villager has to undergo. Simplicity is one of the striking features of Sharatchandra’s stories. He wrote stories in a very simple format, which found immense popularity amongst his readers. He crafted his stories on human relationships in such a way that there were no heroes or villains.
